Water Purifier that Can Remove PFAS
What is PFAS?
PFAS is a collective term for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, comprising over 10,000 different compounds. They are known as "forever chemicals" because they barely decompose in nature.
In the 2023 carcinogenicity evaluation by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), an agency under the World Health Organization, PFOA, which has been used in stain repellents for clothing and in frying pans, was classified as Group 1 (carcinogenic to humans). PFOS, which has been used in semiconductors, was classified as Group 2B (possibly carcinogenic to humans).
Beyond cancer, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine have also pointed out concerns based on concrete evidence, such as increased cholesterol levels, thyroid hormone abnormalities, and effects on fetuses.
These substances have diverse applications and have been detected in water across Japan. Numerous reports also indicate high levels of PFAS in the blood of residents who drank the water, posing health risks.
